OUR EQUIPMENT
Built for every body. Designed to challenge and support in equal measure
Studio Circuit classes use five pieces of specialist Pilates equipment — and if you've never set foot in an equipment studio before, walking in for the first time can feel a little overwhelming. Here's what you'll find, and why each piece earns its place.
The Cadillac Trapeze Table
The Cadillac — or trapeze table — looks more dramatic than it is. A raised padded table with an overhead frame of bars, straps, and springs, it's one of the most versatile pieces of apparatus in the studio. It's particularly useful for spinal mobility work, stretching, and upper body strengthening, and it's a favourite for clients who need a little more support or range — which is why it's often used in both rehabilitation and advanced Pilates work. In a group class, it adds variety and depth that you simply can't replicate on a mat.
The Wunda Chair
Small but formidable. The Wunda chair is a compact box with a spring-loaded pedal, and it demands a level of stability and focus that will surprise you. It's excellent for single-leg work, balance, and deep core engagement. Many clients find it the most challenging station in the room — in the best possible way.
Fuse Ladders
Fuse ladders are a newer addition to many studios, and ours are no exception. Wall-mounted with adjustable strap positions, they allow for a wide variety of pulling, pressing, and rotational movements — building shoulder stability, postural strength, and functional upper body conditioning..
The Reformer
The reformer is the cornerstone of equipment Pilates — and the one most people have heard of. A sliding carriage runs on a spring-loaded frame, creating resistance that can be increased or decreased to meet you exactly where you are. What makes the reformer so effective is its versatility: the same piece of equipment can challenge an elite athlete and gently support someone in the early stages of rehab. In a Studio Circuit, you might use it for footwork, core stability, leg and arm strengthening, or full-body sequences that test your coordination and control.
The Ladder Barrel
The ladder barrel is a curved barrel attached to a ladder-like frame, and it supports spinal extension, flexibility, and side-body work that are difficult to replicate anywhere else. It's particularly useful for opening up tight thoracic spines, working into hip flexors and hamstrings, and deepening the articulation of the spine that sits at the heart of Pilates practice. In a class context, it adds a stretching and mobilising dimension that balances out the strengthening work.
WHO IT’S FOR
You don't need to be fit, flexible, or experienced. You just need to show up.
One of the most common things we hear from new clients is some version of: "I wasn't sure I was ready." And almost always, within a few sessions, that same person is wondering why they waited so long.
Our group classes are designed for real people with real bodies and real lives. Here's who tends to thrive at Nutrio — and why.
-
Starting something new — especially something body-focused — takes a certain kind of courage. We know that. Our instructors take the time to explain every movement, every piece of equipment, and every modification before you need it. Classes are small enough that you'll never feel lost or embarrassed to ask. And because we cap numbers at five for Studio Circuits and eight for mat and yoga, there's always someone paying attention to how you're moving.
-
Because Nutrio began as a physiotherapy practice, rehabilitation has always been at the heart of what we do. Our instructors are experienced in working with people who have musculoskeletal conditions, post-surgical presentations, chronic pain, or persistent niggles that other forms of exercise tend to aggravate. If something hurts, we modify. If something doesn't feel right, we find another way. You'll never be pushed beyond what's appropriate for your body at this moment.
If you're currently under the care of a physiotherapist — ours or someone else's — we're happy to work alongside your treatment plan. Just let us know when you book.
-
Whether it's been six months or six years, returning to movement after time away can feel daunting. Equipment Pilates is particularly well suited to this stage — the spring resistance supports your body through ranges of motion that might feel difficult to achieve independently, building strength progressively and safely without the joint loading of high-impact exercise.
-
Pilates was built for longevity, and some of our most committed, capable clients are in this age group. The emphasis on postural strength, joint mobility, balance, and controlled movement maps directly onto the things that matter most as we age: staying strong, moving confidently, and reducing the risk of injury. Our studio is on the ground floor (Studio Circuits) and the first floor (mat and yoga), and we're always happy to discuss access needs in advance.
-
Runners, cyclists, golfers, swimmers — many people find that Pilates is the missing piece. The focus on rotational stability, single-leg balance, hip and shoulder mobility, and breath control translates directly to sport and activity performance. It's not unusual for a client to come in because their physio recommended it and stay because it's made everything else feel better.

If you're completely new to Pilates, we'd suggest starting with a Studio Circuit or a mat Pilates class — both are designed to be accessible to beginners, and our instructors will make sure you feel orientated before you begin. If you're already comfortable with mat Pilates and want to try the equipment, Studio Circuit is a natural next step. Not sure? Our intro offer — 3 classes for £45 — is designed for exactly this: try a mix, see what resonates, and go from there. You can also drop us an email and we'll point you in the right direction.
-
In most cases, yes — and often Pilates is precisely what's been recommended. Our instructors are experienced in adapting exercises for a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions, post-surgical presentations, chronic pain, and persistent injuries. That said, if you have a specific condition you're unsure about, we'd always encourage you to get in touch before booking so we can have a proper conversation. If you're currently working with a physiotherapist, we're happy to liaise with your treatment plan.
-
Studio Circuit classes have a maximum of five participants. Mat Pilates and yoga classes have a maximum of eight. This is intentional — smaller classes mean your instructor can see how you're moving, offer corrections and adaptations in real time, and give you the kind of attention you'd expect from a personal session, in a group setting.
-
Flexibility is not a prerequisite for Pilates — it's often a result of it. Our classes are sequenced progressively, and every exercise can be modified to suit where your body is right now. You won't be expected to perform anything you're not ready for, and your instructor will always offer alternatives. The only expectation is that you show up.
-
