Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know before your first visit — and a few things you might not have thought to ask.
Can't find what you're looking for? We're always happy to help.
-
Absolutely — and you're in good company. Many of our clients come to us with no Pilates experience at all. Whether you're recovering from injury, looking to build strength, or simply want to move better, we'll meet you exactly where you are. Our New to Nutrio page is a great place to start if you're not sure which service is right for you.
-
Not at all. There's no level of fitness or flexibility required before you walk through our door. The equipment and sessions are designed to work with your body as it is today. All you need to do is arrive exactly as you are.
-
All appointments and classes can be booked directly online. You'll need to create an account the first time you book — once verified you can log in and book anytime. Prefer to get in touch first? Email us at hello@nutrio-studio.co.uk or call 01382 520955
-
Yes — all new clients complete a short health form before their first appointment or class. You'll receive this automatically when you book online. It takes just a few minutes and helps us make sure your session is right for you from the very start.
-
Wear something comfortable you can move in — leggings or shorts and a t-shirt work well. For Pilates shoes are not worn in the studio so bring a pair of clean socks, grip socks are preferred and available to purchase in the studio. For physiotherapy, make sure you can comfortably access the area being treated.

Opening hours are Monday to Thursday 9am–6pm, Friday 8:30am–12pm, and Saturday 7:30–11:30am. Studio Circuits and physiotherapy are on the ground floor. Reformer and mat classes are on the first floor, up around eighteen steps with no lift — do get in touch before booking if that's a consideration.
-
We kindly ask for 24 hours' notice for cancellations or rescheduling. Late cancellations and no-shows will be charged a fee. We understand that life doesn't always go to plan — if something comes up, please get in touch and we'll do our best to help.
GETTING STARTED
-
We treat a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions including back and neck pain, joint pain and stiffness, sports injuries and tendinopathies, post-surgical rehabilitation, persistent and chronic pain, and pre- and postnatal musculoskeletal conditions. If you're unsure whether your condition is something we can help with, just get in touch — we're happy to advise.
-
No — you can book directly with us without a referral. We are a self-referral practice, which means you can get the help you need without waiting for a GP appointment first.
-
Initial appointments are 50 minutes, giving us time for a thorough assessment, hands-on treatment, and the beginning of your rehabilitation plan. Follow-up appointments are 30 minutes. We'll always let you know what to expect when booking.
-
Your first session includes a detailed discussion of your history and goals, a comprehensive physical assessment, hands-on treatment where appropriate, and the start of a personalised rehabilitation plan. You'll also receive a video home programme — exercises filmed and sent directly to you so you can continue your recovery confidently between sessions.
-
This varies depending on your condition and goals, and we'll give you an honest picture at your initial assessment. Many clients see meaningful progress within three to six sessions. We'll always discuss the plan with you and review it as you progress.
-
Yes — we work with people at all levels of activity, from recreational exercisers to competitive athletes. Whether you're managing a tendinopathy, recovering from a sprain, or returning to sport after surgery, we can help.
PHYSIOTHERAPY
PILATES CLASSES
-
Three different kinds of class, none of them harder or more advanced than the others — and every one capped at six people. Studio Circuits is our small group equipment class, downstairs on the ground floor. Everyone works through their own individualised programme, moving between the reformers, Cadillac trapeze table, Wunda chairs, ladder barrel and fuse ladders. It's the one to choose if you're working around something specific — a knee, a back, a shoulder, or exercises you've been given. Reformer Pilates runs upstairs in the Tower studio, on six reformers. Everyone is on a machine and the room moves together through the same exercises, led from the front. There are four reformer classes — Foundation, Rhythm, Control and Express — named for how the session runs rather than how difficult it is. Foundation is where the machine gets explained, and it's open to anyone. Mat Pilates is also upstairs, and uses no equipment at all — just carefully sequenced movement to build strength and control, with your own body weight as the load. One class pack covers all three, so you never have to decide permanently. Most people who do more than one will tell you they aren't substitutes for each other. One practical thing: the upstairs studio is up around eighteen steps that turn two corners, and there's no lift. If stairs are difficult, Studio Circuits is on the ground floor and does closely related work.
-
Yes — in our Tower studio upstairs, on six Balanced Body reformers, with never more than six people in a class. There are four reformer classes and they are four kinds of class rather than four levels. Foundation is where the machine gets explained, and there is no prerequisite for it. Rhythm is the standard class, moving continuously from one exercise into the next. Control takes the same exercises with slower, more deliberate transitions — worth saying plainly that slower is not easier, and most people find it the harder of the two. Express is a shorter forty minutes. You can read more on the reformer Pilates page, and the easiest way to try it is the intro offer: three classes for £45, valid 21 days from your first booking.
-
Foundation, unless you have used a reformer before.
It is the class where nothing is assumed. The parts of the machine get named, the springs get explained rather than silently adjusted, and you are told what an exercise is for rather than only how to do it. Nobody is too experienced for it and nobody will ask why you are there.
After that, go wherever your week and the timetable suit. There is no ladder to climb and no order you are supposed to follow.
If you would like to know what actually happens in a first class, we have written the whole thing out.
-
The reformer and mat classes are on the first floor, up around eighteen steps that turn two corners, and there is no lift. It is worth knowing before you book rather than after. If stairs are difficult for you, our Studio Circuits classes are on the ground floor and do closely related work on equipment — reformer, trapeze table, chair and ladder barrel — with everyone following their own programme. Please just tell us when you book and we will make sure you are in the right room.
-
That's a completely normal feeling — and one we hear often. Our classes are small by design, the atmosphere is welcoming and unhurried, and our instructors are attentive to every person in the room. Nobody is expected to keep up with anyone else. If you'd prefer to get a feel for the studio first, a 1:1 session is a lovely way to build confidence before joining a group.
-
All group classes and 1:1 Pilates sessions are 50 minutes.
-
New clients can try three classes for £45 — valid for 21 days from your first booking. The offer applies to all mat Pilates & Studio Circuit classes and can be mixed and matched across both.
-
Yes — private one-to-one sessions on the Pilates equipment are available and are a great option if you're new to the equipment, progressing from physiotherapy, or simply prefer a fully personalised session. An introductory offer of 3 sessions for £205 is available for new clients.
-
Yes — Studio Circuits packs can be redeemed against mat Pilates classes too, giving you flexibility to mix and match across the timetable.
