One-to-one Pilates, built around your body.
Private sessions on the reformer, Cadillac trapeze table, Wunda chair, ladder barrel, and fuse ladders — tailored completely to you, your body, and your goals.
1:1 Studio Pilates
WHAT TO EXPECT
Your first session begins with a conversation — about your history, any injuries or conditions, and what you're hoping to get from these sessions. Not a form to fill in while someone watches. An actual conversation, because the more we understand about how your body has been living, the better we can design for it.
Then you'll move. Gently at first — your instructor will introduce you to the equipment, and you'll finish your first session having actually done Pilates, not just talked about it. Most people are surprised by two things: how supported the equipment makes them feel, and how much they've done without anything hurting.
From there, sessions build progressively. Each one picks up where the last left off — developing strength, mobility, and control in a way that's meaningful and measurable. You'll know why you're doing each exercise, because understanding the why is half of what makes it work. Many clients eventually combine 1:1 sessions with our small group classes as their confidence and capacity grow — but there's no timetable for that, and no pressure to move on. Some people stay one-to-one for years, because the hour is theirs and they intend to keep it.
Sessions are 50 minutes.
If you've never set foot in an equipment studio, the apparatus can look a little like Victorian gym furniture — springs, straps, towers, and moving parts. Here's the reassuring truth: every piece exists to make movement more possible, not less. The spring-based resistance can support your body where it needs help and challenge it where you're ready — something no mat class or gym machine can do at the same time. You don't need to know anything about any of it before you arrive. Your instructor sets up every spring and strap for you; all you do is move.
THE EQUIPMENT
Ladder barrel
A curved barrel that supports spinal articulation and the sort of stretch that's difficult to find anywhere else.
Reformer
The foundation of equipment Pilates. The sliding carriage and adjustable springs mean the same exercise can be gentle support one week and honest work the next — it grows with you
Cadillac trapeze table
A raised table with an overhead frame of bars and springs. Outstanding for spinal mobility and rehabilitation, and kinder than the floor if getting up and down is a barrier.
Wunda Chair
Small but deceptively challenging. Excellent for single-leg strength, balance, and the kind of control that makes stairs and pavements feel easier.
Fuse ladders
Wall-mounted, with adjustable straps. Brilliant for full-body strengthening, shoulder stability, and coordination work.
WHO 1:1 SESSIONS ARE FOR
You're progressing from physiotherapy — with Ailsa, or with a physiotherapist elsewhere — and want a clinical bridge back to full, confident movement rather than being discharged into thin air.
You're new to Pilates equipment and would rather find your feet with undivided attention before joining a group class. (Plenty of people start here for exactly this reason — there's no deep end.)
You're returning after injury, surgery, or a long break — and you want someone who understands what your body has been through to set the pace, rather than a class that assumes a body you don't currently have.
You simply want an hour that's entirely yours — a personalised session, one instructor, no one else in the room, built around your body and your week.
You don't need to be fit, flexible, or experienced. You don't need the right clothes or any knowledge of the equipment. All you need to do is arrive exactly as you are.
“I have found it helps greatly with everyday life activities, as well as for sports such as golf & cycling. Improved strength, flexibility, mobility and balance are some of the benefits for me… Ailsa is a very capable, committed and conscientious person who can be trusted to help meet your specific needs.”

FROM PHYSIO TO PILATES
Many of our 1:1 clients arrive via physiotherapy — either with Ailsa directly, or referred from another physiotherapist or consultant. The gap between finishing rehab and feeling genuinely confident in your body again is one that standard healthcare rarely bridges. You're discharged when you're "better", but better isn't the same as strong.
That bridge is one of the things Nutrio does particularly well. Because Ailsa is an HCPC Registered Physiotherapist as well as a Pilates teacher, your sessions can pick up precisely where treatment left off — same understanding of your history, same clinical reasoning, but now with the whole studio's equipment to build with. If you're under the care of a physiotherapist elsewhere, we're happy to work alongside their plan — just let us know when you book.
“The Studio is extremely well equipped, bright and welcoming yet tranquil and inspiring. Ailsa is patient, insightful, empathetic, encouraging and understanding. Each session is the best hour in the week as I always leave feeling uplifted and full of positivity.”
Common Questions
-
None at all. First-timers are a large part of who we see one-to-one — it's the gentlest possible introduction to the equipment, because everything is set up for you and the pace is entirely yours.
-
Something comfortable you can move in — leggings or shorts and a t-shirt work well. Shoes aren't worn in the studio, so bring clean socks; grip socks are ideal and available to buy at reception.
-
It varies with your goals. Some clients do a handful of sessions to build confidence before moving into a group class; others keep a weekly or fortnightly 1:1 as a long-term part of their routine. We'll give you an honest picture after your first session — there's no minimum and no pressure either way.
-
Yes — and we're happy to liaise with your physiotherapist so the two work together rather than in parallel.
-
Yes. Ailsa holds specialist certifications in pre- and postnatal Pilates, and sessions are adapted to each stage. If you're postnatal, you may also like our Postnatal Pilates class — babies welcome.
-
If you're nervous about groups, working around an injury, or want a foundation built specifically for your body, start one-to-one. If you're generally well and just want to try Pilates, the group intro offer (3 classes for £45) is a lovely low-pressure way in. Genuinely unsure? Email us — we'll point you honestly, even if that means the cheaper option.
